Late on
West Midlands Railway?

If WMR made you late, the claim should not take another chunk out of your day.

West Midlands Railway

Worth checking on WMR...

West Midlands Railway Delay Repay can apply once your journey reaches the destination 15 minutes or more late. Cancelled trains can count too when they delay the trip or cause a missed connection.

The admin bit...

WMR still wants the
details

West Midlands Railway sends you through its Delay Repay portal. So you still have to piece together the journey, prove the ticket, choose the payment method, and get it all in before the 28-day deadline. The manual route looks like this:

  1. Check whether a West Midlands Railway service made your whole journey arrive 15 minutes or more late. If a cancelled train pushed the completed trip late enough, that can still count.
  2. Submit the claim within 28 days of the delay, before the ticket proof and service details disappear into the usual admin pile.
  3. Go to the official West Midlands Railway Delay Repay portal. A standard claim can be started without an account, though regular travellers can save ticket, contact, and payment details by signing up.
  4. Enter your contact details, journey date, scheduled departure, origin, destination, selected delayed or cancelled service, and delay band.
  5. Add ticket evidence, such as a ticket image, barcode or booking reference, smartcard number, Swift details, ticket cost, and season-ticket details where relevant.
  6. Choose how you want the compensation paid, check that WMR is the operator responsible for the delay, then submit the claim.
  7. If you bought a qualifying Advance Single direct through a WMR or LNR account, look for a One-click Delay Repay email prompt after travel. Other tickets still need the manual route.
  8. If disruption meant you did not travel at all, that is usually an unused-ticket refund from the retailer or point of purchase, rather than Delay Repay.

Details worth getting right

Evidence

Have the journey date and time, origin, destination, planned train, delay length, ticket cost, and ticket proof ready. WMR may ask for a ticket image, barcode or reference, smartcard number, Swift details, or season-ticket photocard details.

Booked outside WMR

Bought through Trainline, work travel, or another retailer? If WMR caused the qualifying delay, claim Delay Repay from West Midlands Railway. If you did not travel and need an unused-ticket refund, go back to the seller.

Season tickets

Season-ticket compensation is based on the daily or single-journey value, not the full pass price. WMR uses: 7-day Season: divide by 5 for daily travel cost, 4-week Season: divide by 20 for daily travel cost, Monthly Season: divide by 20 for daily travel cost, Annual Season: divide by 232 for daily travel cost, Flexi Season: divide by 16 for a single journey value.

One-click prompts

WMR offers One-click Delay Repay for some Advance Single tickets bought direct through a WMR or LNR account. It can send a next-day email prompt, but tickets bought elsewhere and other ticket types are not covered.

When claims get knocked back

Common WMR claim problems include claiming after 28 days, a delay under 15 minutes, choosing the wrong operator, weak ticket proof, duplicate claims, or journey details that do not match WMR records or the amended timetable.

Payment choices

West Midlands Railway payment options include credit or debit card, PayPal, BACS bank transfer, rail vouchers, and charity donation. Its current Delay Repay page names Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity.

Bottom line...

15 mins count

If a West Midlands Railway service got you there 15 minutes or more late, you could be due UK train delay compensation. That includes Birmingham commuter routes, Cross City line journeys, Black Country services, and regional trips to Worcester, Hereford, Shrewsbury, Stratford-upon-Avon, Telford, Lichfield, Northampton, and Coventry when WMR caused the delay.

How WMR works out the payout

West Midlands Railway calculates Delay Repay as a percentage of your ticket cost, based on the delay band and whether you had a single, return, or season ticket.

WMR rates:

WMR-specific rules:

  • You can claim when West Midlands Railway gets your whole journey to the destination 15 minutes or more late.
  • Cancelled trains can count when they delay the completed journey or make you miss a valid connection.
  • Claims must be submitted within 28 days of the delayed journey.
  • Daily-ticket compensation is capped at 100% of the daily cost of the ticket.
  • If you chose not to travel because of disruption, the unused-ticket route is usually a refund from the retailer.
  • Flexi Season claims can be made when the travel day was activated.

FAQs

WMR Delay Repay FAQs

How delayed does a WMR journey need to be?

West Midlands Railway Delay Repay starts when your whole journey arrives 15 minutes or more late. WMR can measure the delay against the normal timetable, or against an amended timetable if one was published in advance.

Does a WMR cancellation count for Delay Repay?

Yes, if the cancellation delayed your West Midlands Railway journey or made you miss a connecting GB rail service. If you did not travel at all because of the cancellation, the right route may be an unused-ticket refund from the retailer instead.

How long does WMR give you to claim?

West Midlands Railway says Delay Repay claims must be made within 28 days of the delay, so do not leave the ticket proof and journey details sitting around for too long.

Can Railed deal with my WMR claim?

Yes. Send us the West Midlands Railway journey details and ticket proof, and we can prepare the eligible Delay Repay claim for you. When WMR pays, we take our 10% service fee and send the rest on. Rejected claim, no fee.

What proof does WMR ask for?

You will usually need the journey date, scheduled departure time, origin, destination, delay length, planned train, ticket cost, ticket image or reference, and any smartcard or Swift details. WMR accepts JPG, PNG or PDF uploads under 10MB.

Is WMR One-click Delay Repay automatic?

West Midlands Railway offers One-click Delay Repay for qualifying Advance Single tickets bought directly through a WMR or LNR account on the app or website. It sends an email prompt after eligible delays, but other ticket types and tickets bought elsewhere still need a manual claim.
