Transport for Wales Delay Repay can start when you arrive more than 15 minutes late. Cancelled TfW trains can count too, if the cancellation pushed your final arrival past the 15-minute mark.
But...
TfW sends manual claims through its Delay Repay portal. That means finding the right journey, proving the ticket or booking, choosing a payment method, and getting it all in before the 28-day deadline. The manual route usually looks like this:
Before you claim
Have your journey date, delayed train time, origin, destination, and ticket proof ready. TfW accepts a ticket scan or photo, a barcode ticket screenshot, or a booking confirmation email if you no longer have the ticket.
For Delay Repay, claim from the train company where the first delay happened. If a TfW service caused it, claim from Transport for Wales even if Trainline or another retailer sold the ticket. For an unused-ticket refund, go back to the seller.
TfW season-ticket claims use a per-journey value, not the full pass price. Use: Annual: ticket cost divided by 464, Monthly: ticket cost divided by 40, Weekly: ticket cost divided by 10, Maximum: two season-ticket claims per day. Multiflex and season-ticket passengers must claim separately for each delayed trip.
TfW Automatic Delay Repay only covers Advance tickets bought through the TfW website or app for a journey on a TfW service. TfW creates the 15+ minute delay claim, but you still need to confirm the emailed journey details.
TfW may reject or query claims with incomplete journey details, ticket proof that does not match, the wrong operator, a late submission, less than 15 minutes delay, no valid ticket for the whole journey, or a refund request dressed up as Delay Repay. Appeals must be made within one month of the decision.
TfW lists bank transfer, PayPal for online claims, National Rail travel vouchers, and charity donation. Its form guidance also refers to debit or credit card and cheque, so check the live form before picking a payment route.
