Did you know...
If an Avanti West Coast service got you to your destination 15 minutes or more late, including after a cancellation where you travelled later, you may be entitled to compensation.
But...
Avanti West Coast makes you claim through its Delay Repay portal. Which means digging out your journey details, proving what you bought, and submitting everything before the deadline. Here's what the manual route looks like:
Before you claim
Have the ticket, booking reference or smartcard number, ticket price, journey date, scheduled departure time, origin, destination, and proof of purchase ready. Avanti says weak proof is a common reason claims get rejected.
You still claim Delay Repay from Avanti if an Avanti West Coast service caused the delay, even if you bought the ticket somewhere else. If you abandoned the trip and did not travel, ask the seller for a refund instead.
Season-ticket claims are not based on the whole pass value. Avanti works from a proportional journey value: Weekly: 1/10 of the total ticket price, Flexi Season: 1/16 of the total ticket price, Monthly: 1/40 of the total ticket price, Quarterly: 1/120 of the total ticket price, Annual: 1/464 of the total ticket price.
Automated Delay Repay only covers eligible Advance tickets bought direct from Avanti after you create a Delay Repay account with the same email address and opt in no later than the day of travel. If no email arrives within 48 hours, claim manually.
Common problems include claiming after 28 days, entering the train you actually took instead of the one you planned to board, using the wrong operator, weak purchase proof, wrong journey details, or no 15-minute delay being found.
Avanti says online claims can be paid back to your credit or debit card, or directly to your bank account. Paper-form claims can use cheque or Rail Travel Voucher compensation.

In plain English...
If an Avanti West Coast service got you to your destination 15 minutes or more late, you could be due UK train delay compensation. That includes long-distance West Coast journeys such as London to Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, or North Wales when Avanti caused the delay.
Avanti West Coast calculates Delay Repay as a percentage of your ticket cost, based on how late you arrived and whether you had a single, return, or season ticket.
Avanti West Coast rates:
| Delay | Single | Return | Season |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15-29 mins | 25% | 12.5% | 25% |
